Additional tree cover (change)

Overview

This layer shows the additional tree canopy created under a modeled scenario implementation. Trees are added within plantable areas until the target canopy coverage is reached. The height and crown structure of the simulated trees are derived from the characteristics of existing trees in the city to represent realistic planting outcomes.

Function
To estimate the tree canopy cover that would result from implementing the scenario.

Cautions
Modeled tree scenarios are hypothetical and only represent one possible outcome. Addtionally, the data is only as strong as its supporting layers. Our input datasets might not be completely accurate in terms of the location and height of urban features like buildings and trees. The scenarios are suitable for guiding assessments of heat and the potential for creating interventions, but are not intended to serve as a tool for designing tree planting programs.
